Shingles Treatment Rash

Shingles treatment rash

Shingles is the clinical manifestation of recurrence of the chickenpox virus (Varicella Zoster virus or VZV). Zoster virus remains latent in sensory nerve ganglia after chickenpox and it can "wake up" several years later to give the shingles. It speaks of viral reactivation. Zoster virus then migrates along the nerve, causing an eruption in the territory innervated by the nerve, or its most often limited to one area of the skin, and one side of the body. Shingles is a very common disease. Several factors promote the shingles rash:

  • Age: shingles is more common after 50 years and its frequency of occurrence increases with age.
  • A immunosuppression promotes the onset of shingles, but shingles is often observed in the immunocompetent.

Risk factors for post-shingles pain are:

  • A patient age above 50 years.
  • Severe pain before and during the eruption of herpes zoster
  • Serious damage to shingles when the rash (necrotic lesions, extended ...)
  • Ophthalmic Shingles.
